The Cool Hunt Newsletter, ISSUE ONE

The Cool Hunt Newsletter, Issue One

INTRODUCTION
I've decided to make Cool Hunt bi-monthly for now. This could change over time.
Cool Hunt is going to be a light-hearted look at the world around us. Little pop-up text bits about what's happening in our malls, in our homes, with our friends, in our heads (this could be scary), and in the world in general. Some of it will be my stuff, but if readers want to share, I encourage them to do so. I don't care about grammar or writing style. If you've got something to say, just send it in. That may sound funny, since I'm a writer. But this is a relaxed, not-too-serious forum. Email me, Robynn Clairday, at matt670@msn.com about anything.

ABOUT ME Writer, reader, movie-viewer, people-watcher, animal-lover, tone-deaf music devotee, Manga-fan, chocolate-obsessed, Diet Coke freak, and much more (and sometimes less). I'll post my publishing credits. I also write screenplays and television shows. I'm a pretty mixed up person. I collect Barbies and stuffed bears, I love Eminem, I write kids' books, I write creepy horror stories, I don't eat red meat, I eat too much sugar and you get the picture. I'm married with two cats. I'm the youngest in a family of five, which is why I have never grown up. Now, onto the good stuff.

WEIRDO SNACKS
A regular section about weird food obsessions. A few will come from celebrities. Lots will come from everyone else. If you have a bizzaro snack or recipe send it in. From yuck to yum, depending on your tastes.

Mine: Chilled M&Ms mixed with Cheerios served with cold Diet Coke.

Vanna White: In a bowl, put (32 oz) cottage cheese, then pour dry Jell-O mix (she likes lime) right from the box over it. Mix well. Drain pineapple (8 oz can in its own juice), then add to mixture. Fold in 8 oz. of Cool Whip (regular or light). Refrigerate until
ready to serve. Add chopped walnuts or pecans if desired.

From the UK: Kristine suggests a couple of UK favorites. Fried Mars bars. And
something called a chip butty, which is two pieces of buttered bread with French fries placed between the slices.

Mike Peters, creator of Grimmy comic strip: Mix Tabasco and molasses in a bowl
of hot grits.

LINGO JINGO
I like to make up my own words. If I had the time, I'd create my own language.
If you have phrases or words of your own creation, send them in. Here's a few:

A conceited fool: confoo
Too cute for words: 2cfw
Super boring: sbo

MALL-WATCHING
What I've seen in the local malls. Let me know what's happening in your town.
Girls using magic marker on their nails instead of nail polish.
Fewer bellies being bared (is that a good thing? ).
Longer hair instead of the short, asymmetrical, multi-towered dos.
Guys sporting the more rugged look. Saw a few who resembled lumberjacks
and bouncers. Less styled hair, less shaven, somewhat Army styled jackets, exposed biceps, and such.
More people buying clip-on ponytails--guys and girls.
Guys dressing like Eminem.
People eating lots of smoothies and ice cream, even when it was freezing out.
Girls wearing really high heels
two or three girls clustered around one guy--can't tell if anyone's together-together, or just buds.
girls wearing really high ponytails or buns (are there ballet dancers on the loose?)
cute toe rings with elastic bands

MINI-QUIZ FOR TV WATCHERS
1)Who was Willow's most hairy ex-love on "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer?" br>
(And, how many of us are crying now that Buffy was cancelled?)
2)Which female cast member initially liked Puck on the Real World, but later turned into his enemy?
(Hint: She married a guy from another Real World show and had a baby.)
3) On Big Brother, the second season, who scrubbed the toilet with Hardy's toothbrush?
4)What happened to the famous Dell dude that may have wrecked his commercial career? (answers next issue)

WRITING TIPS
Write about what excites you, but also use emotions that you've actually experienced. Or, use your empathy. Feel what others feel. This allows
you to write with authenticity and passion. So, it's not just write what
you know, but use all of your senses and your imagination.

Writing only about what you know is too limiting and too boring.
